NEW YEAR

Well, 2009 is here. Time goes quickly no matter where you are.

We are doing well. At least, as well as can be expected in this small city with lots of people we are not able to communicate with. Dave is getting better with his learning of the language. I am able to hear some words and know the general idea of the conversation. We will be heading out the end of January for some important learning sessions and meeting with some friends.

We are thinking ahead to what we are to do with this new year. We have purchased some hand weights and are searching for some workout plans. We walk a lllooottt since we don't ride cabs unless we have a huge load from the store or it has just rained and the streets are very wet and slippery (that is how I fell in Oct) The past year has been relatively easy but also difficult. We don't have to worry about weather, (snow and ice that is) it is always warm here so those don't exist. We do enjoy looking at a new snow fall and hitting the slopes for a few runs. Food, there is plenty of that available either for us to purchase at the open market or supermarket. Cooking it does take some time as it must be washed a couple of times with water from here and then once with our filtered water. Health, so far we have been healthy, PTL and all of those who think of us, except for a few bouts of stomach aches or general things which everyone gets in the US. And we have great safe restaurants here to eat in which are not expensive. You can get a very good plate of fried rice with veggies and meat for about 1.50USD. Amazing huh??? Probably the hardest thing is to be away from family, especially our kids and Lydia - my brother who I talked to almost every day) and friends. I, Judy, have been blessed to have one of my brothers here in country for a few months. It was really great to have him come and visit us and to send us goody boxes (those are always welcome). We do have ways to talk to people in the US over the computer but that is not like in person and being able to give them a hug or talk in person on a daily basis or when there are difficult times, as we all have. We have not been as good as we could be in communication this way. Will try and improve next year.
Well, I have ranted on enough. We will be posting some pictures in the next week of some walks we take around town. They are very interesting and hope that you will enjoy them
Continue to think of us as we are here, We think of you all often.

Hi, Dave & Judy. Jeff has shared your website with me as I am the Vicki he worked with in Shanghai. I was able to help him with some of your goodie boxes and am sorry I am not coming over any more to be of more help. It seemed such a wasted to be in the country and not do more to witness. Hope we can meet someday when you return state-side. In the meantime, I'll keep track of you through this blog and through Jeff (that is if he survives his new cycle!)...vicki from Oklahoma
