Well, we have left the big country and are now in the US.
We had our departure from our city on Thursday April 22nd to head to a larger city so I, Judy, could get an MRI of my neck. You are allowed to check one 20KG (44 #) bag each. We have 8 total to check. The charge to carry extra luggage on a plane is 11RMB (about $1.80 US) per KG but you can air freight anything for 2 RMB per KG (about .50 USD) That is a DUH!!! We were allowed 2 50# bags each to check on our Korean Air flight to DFW and extra bags could weigh 70#. We packed up 2 bags to be the 20 KG limit, 4 to about 60# and the other two at 50#. We shifted things from our carry-ons to checked bags once we made the first leg of the trip. We had 197 KG of bags to check. WOW!!! We wrapped them in rice bags (the green bags) and taped them very well then attached out luggage straps. They made it on the air freight quite well and so we left the green rice bags on for the flight to the US. This picture is our bags waiting in line to check-in for Korean Air flight to DFW. When we arrived in DFW ALL of our bags made it we were most excited. We had a friend with us and he had sent a bicycle and it made it also. HE is so good. Because all of the luggage tags were still attached there had been NO inspection of our bags. Cleared customs, yeah, and were on our way to collect our rental car to head to a friends to stay for a few days. We had to search bags for some things and found 2 pictures we had had framed there had the glass broken and one tea maker was broken (had been packed in a not good spot). We will see how the rest of our stuff traveled as we open more bags. Thanks so much for your PRs for us as we traveled. We are in CO right now and will be traveling to TX on Tuesday and then start sharing with groups of our time in the BIG country. Will keep you updated as we start this culture shock adventure.
