DARK and STORMY

The night was dark…. and stormy. The weary travelers tried not to listen to the thunder. It wasn’t working. They had departed that morning in moderate rain and had just barely kept ahead of the storms all day. They had stayed dry only by hastily unloading the car on arriving at that night’s stop. Now, as they lay in bed, sleep came uneasily to their tired minds.

Well, we have finally completed our initial travels and have arrived at our first real stop in 45+ days of travel. We have been from WV, Orlando, Key West, Pensacola, Louisiana, Oklahoma City, Gatlinburg, and now Richmond, VA. Having traveled almost 5,000 miles, we are ready to be in one place for a few days. We will actually be here for 8 weeks while we do our duties as “office staff”.

Really, our travels have been very interesting. Orlando was a great time to be with Matt, Cyndi and the kids. We enjoyed being grandparents and our visit with them. Key West reminded us of our time in GTMO (Guantanamo Bay, Cuba). Pensacola was a step back in time to our former lives in the Navy. Seeing a real F-8 up close again was a highpoint as well as all of the other Navy planes. Another too short visit in Leesville, Louisiana to visit Melanie, John and Kyla was next. Kyla sure knows how to get grandpa’s attention. Our visit with them was really short, but we will be back in December to help celebrate Kyla’s first birthday. In Oklahoma City, we established our residence in OK and registered all of our vehicles there. Our stop in Gatlinburg was essentially a rest stop.

One thing of note, we bought our camper (5th wheel) while we were in Orlando. It is now in an indoor storage building there waiting for us to get there to pick it up. We plan to do that somewhere in mid January. We will be getting the hitch installed in the truck very soon so that the truck will be ready for ‘work’ when we get there.

There are pictures of all of this on our flickr site which is linked on at the top of the blog
