OUR 4TH SPRING IN ONE YEAR
One of the interesting things of traveling is that sometimes you get to do things more than once. This year, we have had 4 springs.
Brilliant redbud blossoms, beautiful white dogwoods and lush, new, green tree leaves are just part of the spring display. All of these plus lots of new flowers accompanied us as we traveled north this year. From Louisiana, Tennessee, and Missouri, we saw each of these appear in all of their glory as we camped and drove. Crossing southern Missouri, the dogwood trees were especially beautiful and abundant in the awakening forest.
Spring has its darker side too. In Oklahoma, we were confronted by the spring TORNADOS. Where do you go in a camper when the announcer on tv tells you in her most dramatic voice to “go to your safe area”? Even if we went and stood in the shower, we would be less than 4 inches from the outside elements. It was a sobering realization that living in a camper is not like living in a house.
We just finished 2 days of bad weather. On the first day, there was a tornado about 10 miles from where we have the camper parked. We had already been in some pretty bad rain storms, but this was a new experience. Yesterday was supposed to be worse. Throughout the day, the wind buffeted the camper, but the worst weather wasn’t supposed to get here until nighttime. Judy’s brother, Jeff, lives just a couple of miles from us. Jeff and Robin were not going to be
home so they invited us to spend the night at their house. It was comforting to be able to hide in the bathtub if a real storm came close. None did, but we were prepared. I slept like a baby and didn’t even hear the line of thunderstorms go by. Thanks guys!!
When we got back to the camper this morning, there were a few small branches out of the trees in the campground, but the trailer was ok and dry inside. We got ready and went to church. It was a glorious time.
Today is a cloudy day, but no storms are on the horizon. It looks like just another spring day in paradise.
