whirlwind of a week

Well, whirlwind is an understatement.

Last Monday Dave had a CT done to check some things prior to getting his Avastin treatment
Tuesday we went to MMH Cancer Center and the NP informed us that there was an area of concern on his brain so they were going to consult with Columbus first before giving the treatment
After some discussion the decision was made to send him via ambulance to CMH for further look
CT was done at CMH James and they said no change BUT do not do treatment.  He also informed them that he thought he was getting a bladder infection, new to me but...
There was no evidence of one so they sent him back home thanks JU for driving up and getting him back home so I could finish some things up.
Wednesday evening he mentioned he needed some AZO cranberry capsules as the bladder infection was really bothering him,   First I had heard of this.
Thursday and Friday loads of sleeping done and the pain persisted  Tylenol handled it at night but the day was not good.  By Saturday things were getting pretty desperate and I wanted to take him to the ED then but no luck.   By Sunday I was insistent that on Monday morning if things were not better we WERE GOING to the ED.
FF to Monday AM.  The rest of our household headed to TN for some much need time away and visit friends and we headed to the ED.  Belly scan and within 20 minutes they said there is a bowel perforation and surgery IS NEEDED.   SO another ambulance ride to CMH was in order.  Once here they checked the scan and agreed.  Surgeon was consulted and he was ready for surgery by 1500 ish.  Surgery over by 1900  All went well  They DID remove the Sigmoid portion of his large intestines and found quite a bit of pus inside his abdomen cavity.  This had been there for a few days according to the surgeon.   Surgery tolerated well and they just sent him to a room no ICU.  Doctor was amazed he had no nausea, fever or other signs.  I informed him pray ers around the world had held us before the throne and God had been so very gracious. THANKS ALL.  We know that these prayers offered up for us are what keeps us afloat daily.   I know there are days I am not even able to really pray about this because I do not know what to ask but there are faithful warriors and there are not words to express to you our gratitude.  This means a most likely a 7-10 day hospital stay here in CMH and then most probably some rehab for that long.   AVASTIN????  Well, we do not know but are assuming that we have seen the last of that drug and it is actually the advice of the surgeon to not continue it.   We will consult with Neuro Oncology in a few days.   Will post more tomorrow after I speak with doctors and get my POA going.

Thanks again faithful friends and family.   Like I said there are not words.   Song says How can I say thanks for the things you have done for me.   This is how I feel.   Thanks to DH and CH who live up here in CMH for coming and spending time with me.
